Watch this!Tony Benn, long-time Labour MP and socialist is my political hero. But although he has a warm spot in his heart for Karl Marx (he actually called him the last of the Old Testament biblical prophets) he is also a great devotee of Thomas Paine (a Founding Father who was born in Sandwich England). I cordially invite you to spend a half-hour or so watching his documentary on Democracy. It is in five parts for easy viewing. You can find it at:

Excellent! I have combined the clips into one Quicktime movie for burning to CD or DVD for easy off-line sharing. Thanks for the link. This brought to mind Dick Gregory's famous differentiation between education and indoctrination, and what our Duuuuuttyy is in this country.
Not only is he a brilliant politician but he is wonderful in practical matters, as well. I was never a tea drinker -but when you are in Rome. . . Anyway, I was having trouble making a proper cup of tea until I heard him tell his secret on BBC Radio 4. I tried it, and now I can't live without it.
Also, he turned down his Father's inherited peerage because he wanted to remain in the people's house instead of becoming Lord Benn.
I heard him speak at the Bath Abbey last year, even the Conservatives cheered him. He is a brilliant thinker, a brilliant speaker, and brutally honest.
